Estimated Results (per pay period)
This calculator provides estimates only and is not tax, legal or accounting advice. Federal tax uses the 2026 IRS withholding formula (Publication 15-T, Worksheet 1A) assuming a standard Form W-4 with no additional adjustments. New Jersey state tax uses the official 2025 withholding formula from NJ Div. of Taxation — NJ-WT Withholding Rate Table A, assuming standard withholding with no additional allowances or credits. It also uses the 2026 Social Security wage base. It supports Single/MFS, Married Filing Jointly/Qualifying Surviving Spouse, Head of Household and Nonresident Alien federal filing statuses (Nonresident Alien withholding follows the IRS Notice 1392 wage-addback procedure), and calculates overtime pay at 1.5x the hourly rate. It does not account for local taxes or additional allowances/credits. Actual withholding depends on your W-4, employer payroll system and individual circumstances. Consult a tax professional or payroll provider for exact figures.

A New Jersey paycheck may include federal income tax withholding, Social Security and Medicare in addition to state-specific deductions. Federal taxes are calculated separately from the New Jersey withholding method.
Federal Income Tax Withholding
Federal income tax withholding depends on taxable wages, payroll frequency and the employee's Form W-4 information. Employers use the IRS 2026 withholding methods rather than applying one flat federal tax rate.

How New Jersey Income Tax Withholding Works
New Jersey Gross Income Tax withholding is based on the state's withholding instructions and the employee's Form NJ-W4. It should not be estimated by applying one flat percentage to every employee's gross wages.
Form NJ-W4 allows an employee to provide filing status, a withholding-rate category, allowances and any additional amount to be deducted from each paycheck. Employees with more than one job or households with multiple wage earners may need a higher withholding rate because combined income can fall into a higher tax range.

New Jersey Employee Payroll Contributions for 2026
New Jersey employees can see several state payroll contributions in addition to state income tax. These deductions have different rates and wage bases.
| 2026 Worker Contribution | Employee Rate | 2026 Wage Base |
|---|---|---|
| Unemployment Insurance (UI) | 0.3825% | $44,800 |
| Workforce Development / Supplemental Workforce Funds | 0.0425% | $44,800 |
| Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) | 0.19% | $171,100 |
| Family Leave Insurance (FLI) | 0.23% | $171,100 |
These are standard worker rates published for calendar year 2026. Governmental reimbursable employers can have a different worker UI rate. A paycheck calculator should also stop applying a contribution after the employee reaches the applicable annual wage base.

How Temporary Disability and Family Leave Affect Take-Home Pay
Temporary Disability Insurance and Family Leave Insurance are funded in part or entirely through employee payroll deductions, so they can reduce New Jersey take-home pay even though they are not income taxes.
For 2026, the employee TDI rate is 0.19% on the first $171,100 of covered wages, with a maximum employee contribution of $325.09. The employee FLI rate is 0.23% on the first $171,100, with a maximum employee contribution of $393.53.

How to Estimate a New Jersey Paycheck
A New Jersey paycheck estimate should calculate federal taxes, New Jersey income tax and applicable worker contributions separately before subtracting other payroll deductions.
- Determine gross taxable wages for the payroll period.
- Apply federal income tax withholding using current Form W-4 information.
- Calculate Social Security and Medicare.
- Apply New Jersey Gross Income Tax withholding using NJ-W4 information.
- Calculate UI and Workforce Development contributions until the $44,800 wage base is reached.
- Calculate TDI and FLI contributions until the $171,100 worker wage base is reached.
- Apply other pre-tax and post-tax deductions.
- Subtract total withholding and deductions from gross pay to estimate net pay.
New Jersey Hourly Paycheck Calculator
A New Jersey hourly paycheck estimate starts with the hourly rate and hours worked during the pay period.
Hourly Rate × Regular Hours = Regular Gross Pay
Add taxable overtime, commissions, bonuses or other compensation that belongs in the period before applying withholding and payroll deductions.
New Jersey Salary Paycheck Calculator
For a salaried employee, gross pay per paycheck is generally annual salary divided by the number of pay periods in the year.
- Weekly: annual salary ÷ 52
- Biweekly: annual salary ÷ 26
- Semimonthly: annual salary ÷ 24
- Monthly: annual salary ÷ 12
The resulting amount is gross pay, not take-home pay. Taxes and other deductions are applied after gross pay for the period is determined.
Gross Pay vs. Net Pay in New Jersey
Gross pay is compensation before taxes and payroll deductions. Net pay is the amount remaining after applicable withholding and deductions.
Gross Pay - Taxes - Payroll Deductions = Estimated Net Pay
An employee's New Jersey take-home pay can change because of filing information, benefits, retirement contributions, supplemental wages and other payroll elections.

- Number of NJ-W4 allowances
- Additional New Jersey withholding
- Year-to-date wages reaching a contribution wage base
- Bonuses or commissions
- Overtime

- Governmental reimbursable employer status
- Payroll adjustments
