Any overtime?

This calculator provides estimates only and is not tax, legal or accounting advice. Federal tax uses the 2026 IRS withholding formula (Publication 15-T, Worksheet 1A) assuming a standard Form W-4 with no additional adjustments. New Mexico state tax uses the official 2025 withholding formula from New Mexico TRD — approximated from published 2021 HB 291 rate structure (primary FYI-104 withholding PDF could not be extracted; NM ties withholding to the federal standard deduction), assuming standard withholding with no additional allowances or credits. It also uses the 2026 Social Security wage base. It supports Single/MFS, Married Filing Jointly/Qualifying Surviving Spouse, Head of Household and Nonresident Alien federal filing statuses (Nonresident Alien withholding follows the IRS Notice 1392 wage-addback procedure), and calculates overtime pay at 1.5x the hourly rate. It does not account for local taxes or additional allowances/credits. Actual withholding depends on your W-4, employer payroll system and individual circumstances. Consult a tax professional or payroll provider for exact figures.

Use the New Mexico Paycheck Calculator to estimate take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and New Mexico wage withholding. New Mexico uses graduated withholding tables for 2026 and does not have its own state equivalent of Form W-4.

For wages paid on or after January 1, 2026, New Mexico's percentage-method withholding tables use rates that range from 1.5% to 5.9%, depending on filing status and wage level. New Mexico instructs employees who need state-specific withholding elections to use a federal Form W-4 marked 'For New Mexico Withholding Tax Only.'

How New Mexico Wage Withholding Works in 2026

New Mexico withholding is an estimate of the employee's state income tax liability and varies with wages, filing status and payroll frequency. Employers use the current state wage withholding tables rather than one flat rate.

The 2026 FYI-104 percentage-method tables include rates of 1.5%, 3.2%, 4.3%, 4.7%, 4.9% and 5.9%. The wage thresholds and base amounts differ for single, married and head-of-household employees as well as by payroll period.

Does New Mexico Have a State W-4?

No. New Mexico does not have a state form equivalent to the federal IRS Form W-4.

The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department instructs employees who need a state-specific W-4 to use a federal Form W-4 and write 'For New Mexico Withholding Tax Only' across the top. The employer should retain that copy for New Mexico withholding purposes.

Who Is Subject to New Mexico Wage Withholding?

Employers that withhold federal income tax from employee wages generally must also withhold New Mexico income tax when the wages fall within the state's withholding rules.

New Mexico defines covered employees to include New Mexico residents performing services inside or outside the state and nonresidents performing services in New Mexico. Limited exceptions apply, including certain active-duty military income and qualifying income earned by a member of a federally recognized New Mexico Indian nation, tribe or pueblo on that group's lands.

New Mexico Workers' Compensation Fee and Your Paycheck

New Mexico also assesses a workers' compensation administration fee on covered employees and employers. The employee share is a fixed quarterly fee rather than a percentage of wages.

From July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028, the employee fee is $2.25 per quarter and the employer fee is $2.55 per employee per quarter. Only the employee share affects take-home pay. Because the fee is quarterly, a paycheck calculator should not apply $2.25 to every paycheck.

How to Estimate a New Mexico Paycheck

A New Mexico paycheck estimate should calculate state withholding using the correct 2026 table for filing status and pay frequency, then combine it with federal payroll taxes and other deductions.

New Mexico Hourly Paycheck Calculator

A New Mexico hourly paycheck estimate starts with the hourly rate and hours worked during the pay period.

Hourly Rate × Regular Hours = Regular Gross Pay

Add taxable overtime, commissions, bonuses or other compensation that belongs in the period before applying withholding and payroll deductions.

New Mexico Salary Paycheck Calculator

For a salaried employee, gross pay per paycheck is generally annual salary divided by the number of pay periods in the year.

The resulting amount is gross pay, not take-home pay. Taxes and other deductions are applied after gross pay for the period is determined.

Gross Pay vs. Net Pay in New Mexico

Gross pay is compensation before taxes and payroll deductions. Net pay is the amount remaining after applicable withholding and deductions.

Gross Pay - Taxes - Payroll Deductions = Estimated Net Pay

An employee's New Mexico take-home pay can change because of filing information, benefits, retirement contributions, supplemental wages and other payroll elections.

Why Your New Mexico Paycheck May Be Different

An actual New Mexico paycheck may differ from a calculator estimate because the state withholding tables depend on filing status, wage level and payroll frequency.
