Mississippi Paystub Generator
Mississippi cut its income tax rate again for 2026: the first $10,000 of taxable income is taxed at 0% and everything above it at 4.0%, down from 4.4% in 2025. Withholding runs through Form 89-350, which claims exemptions in dollars rather than allowances. The state tax is rounded to the whole dollar each check. There is no state minimum wage, no local income tax and no state payroll insurance deduction. This Mississippi paystub generator turns those rules into a clean statement for a Jackson landlord, a Gulfport lender or your own records.

A Short Stub With One State Line to Get Right
A Mississippi pay stub is simpler than most. Next to federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare there is usually only one state deduction: income tax. That single line still trips people up because the Department of Revenue formula subtracts a standard deduction and the Form 89-350 exemption before applying the 4% rate to income above $10,000, then rounds to the dollar.
Online Paystub handles that math at weekly, biweekly, semimonthly or monthly frequency with current and year-to-date totals. Enter hours and rate, preview for free and download the PDF when it matches payroll.

Mississippi's 2026 Rate Cut in Numbers
- Rate drops to 4.0%: taxable income above $10,000 is taxed at 4% in 2026, down from 4.4% in 2025. The first $10,000 stays at 0%.
- Another cut is scheduled: the Department of Revenue lists 3.75% for tax year 2027.
- New withholding tables: the tables in Pub. 89-700 are marked effective January 1, 2026 and the computer formula now multiplies by 0.04.
- Exemptions and standard deductions unchanged: $6,000 single, $12,000 married and $9,500 head of family on Form 89-350, with standard deductions of $2,300, $4,600 and $3,400.

Form 89-350 Exemptions in Dollars
Mississippi does not use the federal W-4. Pub. 89-700 says federal exemption certificates do not supply the proper information for state withholding, so each employee files Form 89-350 and enters a dollar amount:
| Status or item | Exemption |
|---|---|
| Single | $6,000 |
| Married, spouse not employed | $12,000 |
| Married, both spouses employed | Share of $12,000 claimed in $500 steps |
| Head of family | $9,500 |
| Each additional dependent | $1,500 |
| Age 65 or older, blind | $1,500 per box checked |
An employee who never turns in the form is withheld on at zero exemption. A new certificate is due within 30 days of a change in status and within ten days if the change would increase withholding.
How the 4% Withholding Formula Works
- Multiply the pay for the period by the number of periods in the year (26 for biweekly).
- Subtract the Form 89-350 exemption plus the standard deduction for the filing status.
- Tax the part above $10,000 at 4%.
- Divide by the number of pay periods and round to whole dollars.
Mississippi has no flat supplemental rate. Bonuses paid with regular wages are withheld as one payment. Paid separately, they are added to the most recent regular wages, the tax is refigured and the amount already withheld is subtracted. If that clearly over-withholds, the employer may use the highest bracket the employee is expected to reach, which is 4% in 2026. The Department of Revenue posts the 2026 withholding tables and Pub. 89-700 for every pay frequency.
Sample Output for a Jackson Freight Employee
Here is a real preview from the Mississippi paystub generator for an hourly freight worker. The Mississippi state tax line is highlighted.

Scenario: hourly employee of Magnolia Freight Services LLC, 410 E Capitol St, Jackson, MS 39201, paid biweekly. Pay period Sep 14 to Sep 27, 2026, pay date Sep 29, 2026. $19.00 an hour for 80 hours, single, no Form 89-350 on file (zero exemption). This is the 20th paycheck of the year.
| Line | Current | Year to date |
|---|---|---|
| Regular pay (80 hours at $19.00) | $1,520.00 | $30,400.00 |
| Federal income tax | $98.55 | $1,971.00 |
| Mississippi state tax | $42.00 | $840.00 |
| Medicare (1.45%) | $22.04 | $440.80 |
| Social Security (6.2%) | $94.24 | $1,884.80 |
| Net pay | $1,263.17 | $25,263.40 |
The state line follows the Department of Revenue computer formula. Annual pay is $1,520 × 26 = $39,520. With no exemption the only subtraction is the $2,300 single standard deduction, leaving $37,220 of taxable income. The part above $10,000 is $27,220 and 4% of that is $1,088.80 a year. Divided by 26 that is $41.88, which the formula rounds to $42.00. The printed biweekly table gives the same $42 for single wages of $1,520 to $1,540 with $0 exemption. Twenty checks at $42 make the $840.00 year-to-date figure.
Mississippi Has No State Minimum Wage
| Rule | Amount |
|---|---|
| Minimum wage | Federal $7.25 per hour |
| Tipped employees | $2.13 cash wage with up to a $5.12 tip credit |
| Overtime | 1.5x after 40 hours in a workweek (FLSA) |
With no state minimum wage law, employers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act pay the federal rate. The U.S. Department of Labor lists state minimum wage laws for comparison. When a tip credit is used, a Mississippi check stub should show cash wages and reported tips separately so the $7.25 floor is visible.
Paydays, Final Pay and Pay Stub Content
- Pay frequency: manufacturers with 50 or more employees and public service corporations must pay every two weeks or twice a month (Miss. Code § 71-1-35).
- Final paycheck: federal law does not require immediate payment. If wages are still unpaid after the next regular payday, the U.S. Department of Labor points workers to its Wage and Hour Division.
- Stub contents: the FLSA requires accurate records of hours and wages but does not require pay stubs.
Most employers still provide one because lenders ask for it. A useful Mississippi pay stub lists the employer and employee, the pay period and pay date, hours and rate, gross pay, every deduction and net pay with year-to-date totals. The guide on how to make a paystub covers each of those fields.
Contractors and 1099 Workers in Mississippi
Independent contractors are not on payroll, so nothing is withheld for Mississippi tax or FICA. Businesses report their pay on a 1099 instead. The 1099-NEC instructions cover nonemployee compensation and the guide to Form 1099-MISC covers rents and other payments. A contractor who wants a record of each payment can still create a Mississippi pay stub with no withholding lines.
Three Steps to Your Mississippi Statement
- Enter the company and employee details and choose Mississippi as the work state.
- Add the pay rate, hours worked and pay frequency.
- Preview each line against payroll and download the PDF.
Renters often need to show gross monthly income; for a biweekly earner that is the gross pay × 26 ÷ 12. The same Mississippi paystub generator handles weekly and monthly pay too.
Honest Use of Mississippi Pay Records
A pay stub should reflect wages that were actually earned and paid. Use it for real payroll, to document a Mississippi payroll check that was really issued or to support income with bank deposits and a W-2. Making or altering income documents to deceive a lender, landlord or agency is fraud under Mississippi and federal law.
Mississippi Workers Near Memphis and the Coast
Mississippi withholds state tax with Form 89-350. The Memphis metro and the Gulf Coast both connect Mississippi workers to neighbors with different rules.
- DeSoto County residents who work in Memphis have no state income tax withheld on that pay. Build those stubs with the Tennessee paystub generator.
- Coast residents who commute to Slidell or New Orleans owe Louisiana withholding, set up in the Louisiana paystub generator.
- Meridian and Columbus area employers with work in Alabama need Alabama withholding for those days, available in the Alabama paystub generator.
Mississippi Paycheck Questions
What is the Mississippi income tax rate in 2026?
0% on the first $10,000 of taxable income and 4.0% on the rest, down from 4.4% in 2025. The Department of Revenue lists 3.75% for 2027.
What happens if I do not file Form 89-350?
Your employer withholds at zero exemption, which can mean a larger state line on your Mississippi pay stub. The single standard deduction still applies in the computer formula.
Why is my Mississippi tax a round dollar amount?
The Department of Revenue formula divides the annual tax by the number of pay periods and rounds to whole dollars. The printed tables are in whole dollars too.
