Rhode Island Paystub Generator

Rhode Island asks more of a paycheck than most small states. Every payday needs hours worked and a reason for each deduction, hourly staff are normally paid weekly and temporary disability insurance comes out of every dollar up to $100,000. This Rhode Island paystub generator handles the state withholding and federal lines for Providence, Warwick or Newport payrolls and lays them out the way § 28-14-2.1 expects.

Earnings statement preview for a Providence bakery employee showing federal income tax, Rhode Island state tax, Medicare, Social Security and $1,309.45 net pay

Made for Payroll in the Ocean State

A copied template rarely shows hours worked or says why each amount was deducted and both are required on a Rhode Island statement. Leaving them off turns a simple stub into a compliance question.

Online Paystub prints hours, rate and every deduction by name. Choose weekly or biweekly pay, preview the Rhode Island paystub for free and download the PDF once the numbers match payroll.

For 2026 Rhode Island taxes income at 3.75% up to $82,050, 4.75% up to $186,450 and 5.99% above that. Employers withhold from the 2026 Employer's Income Tax Withholding Tables, effective January 1, using the percentage method on pages 9 and 10.

Certificate
RI W-4, filed with the federal W-4
One exemption
$1,000 of annual wages
Exemptions phase out
At annual wages above $290,800
Standard deduction (return)
$11,200 single

An employee who claims no exemptions on the RI W-4 has withholding figured on the full annualized wage, which is what the sample below shows.

TDI: The Deduction Every Rhode Island Worker Pays

TDI on the Providence bakery paycheck

Biweekly gross pay$1,600.00
TDI rate for 20261.1%
TDI for the period$17.60

TDI is paid entirely by the employee and appears as its own deduction on a Rhode Island pay stub, often labelled TDI or RI TDI. The Department of Labor and Training 2026 rate notice lists the rate and base. Unemployment insurance, by contrast, is an employer tax and does not belong among employee deductions.

She earns $20.00 an hour and works 80 hours in the biweekly period from September 7 to September 20, 2026, paid September 25. Sample Rhode Island pay stub lines
LineCurrentYear to date
Gross pay$1,600.00$33,600.00

Rhode Island state tax$60.00$1,260.00

Social Security$99.20$2,083.20
Total taxes$290.55$6,101.55
Net pay$1,309.45$27,498.45

The state line follows the percentage method: $1,600 × 26 = $41,600 of annual wages, all in the 3.75% bracket, which is $1,560.00 a year or $60.00 per check. The figures above are the tax lines the preview calculates. With TDI of $17.60 added as the next deduction, take-home pay for the period is $1,291.85. Hours and Reasons: § 28-14-2.1 in Plain Words

Required on every regular payday

  • The number of hours worked in the pay period
  • Every deduction from gross earnings with the reason for it
  • The regular hourly rate, for commercial construction employers
  • An electronic statement is allowed; a free printed copy on written request

Year-to-date columns are not named in the statute, yet lenders expect them and they make TDI's $100,000 cap easy to track. The guide to year-to-date figures on a pay stub explains how those totals build.

Weekly Paydays and the Nine-Day Window

Rhode Island payroll at a glance for 2026 with tax brackets, RI W-4, TDI, minimum wage, pay frequency, payday timing, pay statement and final pay
  1. End of the pay period

Section 28-14-2 makes weekly pay the default for hourly employees.

  2. Within 9 days

Wages for the period must be paid within nine days after it ends.

  3. Exceptions

Salaried staff paid biweekly, semimonthly or monthly, certain nonprofit and public employers or DLT approval for twice-monthly pay.

  4. Separation

Final wages are due on the next regular payday, with earned vacation after one year of service.

A Rhode Island check stub should match whichever schedule applies. If a check bounces or arrives late, this guide on whether paychecks expire covers what happens to uncashed wages.

$16.00 in 2026, $17.00 in 2027

The state minimum wage rose to $16.00 on January 1, 2026 and is scheduled to reach $17.00 on January 1, 2027. Tipped employees may be paid a $3.89 cash wage when tips cover the rest. Overtime at time and a half applies after 40 hours in a week. A Rhode Island pay stub for tipped staff is clearest when the cash wage and reported tips sit on separate lines.

Reading the Statement Column by Column

  • Current is this paycheck only. It is the column a landlord compares with the deposit in a bank statement.
  • Year to date adds every check since January 1. It is what shows how close an employee is to the $100,000 TDI cap.
  • Hours must appear for each period, which is why a salaried template without an hours field is not enough here.
  • Deduction labels should name the purpose, such as federal income tax, RI income tax, TDI or a health premium.

When a field is blank or a label is vague, the fix is a corrected statement for the same pay period rather than a handwritten note. Reissuing keeps the year-to-date columns on later checks accurate.

Legitimate Payroll Only

Pay stubs must reflect wages that were actually paid. Altering amounts or inventing an employer to qualify for credit or housing is fraud. Use the rhode island paystub generator for real payroll and keep every rhode island paystub consistent with bank deposits and the W-2.
